Happy Halloween!

Today you can be someone else. Enjoy it.

For fun and searching for costumes, I went to myheritage.com and quickly got addicted. I know it's an old joke but it I still think it is hilarious.

My dad is Magneto and Gandalf. I fall in love with Gorillas.
 I wish...

Dave always came up as a wilson brother. I can totally see it.
These both make way too much sense. It's awesome.

Have a great Holiday!

Tip of the day:

If you have an acne problem, use primer before you put on make-up. It makes a world of a difference.

Warning: it doesn't work for Halloween make-up. Now, I have a zit that might kill me.

Katie had a baby!

For those of you who don't know, my two oldest friends of all time are Katie Jones Jackson and Bethany Cherry. We used to do everything together. We probably will someday do it all over again and that's what's GLORIOUS about friends.
  • Katie grew up in my backyard. Practically.
  • Katie got married to Alex (who is a good friend of mine too)
  • Katie and Alex moved far far away. but I love their visits.
  • Yesterday, they both became parents! Her name is Samantha Jane Jackson.
  • I have yet to meet Samantha but I know we will be friends. Aunt's get intuition like that sometimes.

Both Katie and Alex will be delightful parents and I'm dying to see all three of their beaming faces!

Go Life!

Oct 24, 2011

My camera has become a grand ol' pal, he makes me a better person and has become quite significant in my life. It's about time I give him a name... Sir Rodney?
I'll keep thinking about it.

Sometimes People Meet

Dave and I first met at a Latin dance but it's always hard to explain since by then, I had already accepted him as a future friend. I had heard about "Dave" way before we actually met from all of the friends I grew up with. To my friends, I guess he was a pretty big deal.

The things I do remember from the latin dance night:

  • I wore purple.
  • I had come back from my freshmen ward to chill with my home-ward peeps and Dave was among them.
  • I'm pretty sure he informed me that the date I had (who told me he was leaving) actually didn't leave and that I was a bad date. I probably gave Dave a weird look.
  • Dave and I did the chicken dance together.
  • I asked his name by the snacks.
  • He offered me his chair but I declined because I had a stuffy nose and decided to go home.

Next significant moment:

  • Doug invited me to his band's practice to watch (lol I don't know why I was invited to watch)
  • Dave was supposed to be the singer
  • Dave decided not to show up and so nobody showed up
  • They never actually made the band
  • I couldn't remember him very well from the dance so i kept wondering "Who is this Dave guy?"

Next encounter:

  • I knew Dave's brother Seth before I knew Dave (they don't look anything alike) and Seth was going to teach us how to make bread for FHE. My bread didn't rise btw.
  • Dave kept making snarky remarks to Seth and I was not okay with this stranger being so rude. So I spoke up.
  • Then I found out they were brothers but I didn't believe them.
  • I thought Dave did not like me what-so-ever and I did not know what to think of him.

I except all of these encounters as our first meeting.

Mind you, this is when Dave was a tough guy a.k.a. too cool. Dave did not move from this stage in my mind for a while. In the beginning, he asked me if I had ever met a black person, he thought he had better heel clicks than I and he used "scrupulous" as a hangman word. Punk. Though, I was probably super sassy to him too.
It wasn't until Interventions that I saw how ridiculous Dave truly was.

My Christmas Bruises

The nurses poked me 3 times, this is my documentation of the torture.

It only got super worse when I decided to play my intramural volleyball game wednesday night and got this lovely bruise.
And this is the lovely green bruise I got from them going too deep in my vein and together it makes....CHRISTMAS!
My second night of volleyball was a bad decision though...now I have over five noticeable bruises and a few friends wondering how my relationship with dave is going.

Lovely Lizish in Loo-Loo Land (Pre and Post Operation)

This morning at 5 a.m. we woke up and drive on down to the hospital so Lizi could have surgery (a minor procedure, just in case anyone was worrying :D).

Highlights from the day

- Lizi and I tend to be rather goofy in the morning, the only other couples around seemed to be in their 60's, so our giggling and malark-ish actions may have had us deemed as "darn punk kids".

- All of the nurses loved Lizi, and vice versa. Pat and Karen both called a sleeping Lizi "A beautiful sweetheart of a princess". I naturally agreed wholeheartedly.

- Lizi on anesthesia is the most kind-hearted, compliment giving, sticker loving, straw-sipping and people adoring person you'll ever meet. Every person she happened upon was given a compliment and deemed "lovely", which is not something one just forgets. She also mentioned several times how I am her favorite and how much she loves me....and loves horses...but no surprise there. :)

- All in all it was a great day and if an operation is ever needed again, I have a strong feeling she'll be getting knocked out with a big smile on her face.

Mwahahaha

My phone sounds like evil laughter when it vibrates.

A Cheat Sheet

I've gotten more aggressive lately. Sorry.

I am not used to the new amount of determination and I'm not sure if I like it. Fortunately, I know the bulk things I want and I'm gonna fight for them.

I want to...
  • Take a drawing class
  • Learn animation
  • Make this documentary as good as we can
  • Become a T.A.
  • Call my students by their middle names
  • Wear glasses that I don't need
  • Wear yellow pants/shoes
  • Go to pumpkinland
  • Bike to Utah lake
  • Leave notes in library books to future readers
  • Use a friends camera without them knowing and leave a picture story for them
  • Eat in a city I've never been to
  • Sidewalk chalk nice notes to random strangers
  • Write thank you notes for my wedding
  • Hang pictures on my wall
  • Drink cinnamon tea
  • Snowboard
  • Laugh out loud
  • Count all of the things I have in my life that doesn't cost money
  • Make Happiness jars
  • Handmake Christmas gifts
  • Paint the walls
  • Go to a bunch of Halloween Parties-rad ones

One of Those Faces

I have one of those faces.

Everybody thinks they know me, it's awesome! Two days ago a random stranger started a conversation with me and called me by name of Trina. Of course I responded, I'm sure Trina is lovely! A number of people will grow a huge smile on their face when I'm pretty far away. The other day a girl literally started screaming in joy as
I scootered towards her and the only way I know that these people realize I'm not whoever they think I am is because they look closer at my face, their smiles fade and their face turns into pure humiliation.

Despite what they think of me after that moment, I appreciate the boost of delight.

WAIT-loss

Oh no, Lizi is thinking again.

Stop running. Look where you are right now, what is chasing you? Anything at all?

I'm not talking about the "I need to be skinny so I can see my feet again" kind of weight-loss, I'm talking about that ONE THING in the back of your mind SO huge to you it might as well be the anvil that is constantly dropping on your head from the cartoon sky. How many times has it squished you now? Stop waiting or making excuses, you can take off the weight from your shoulders and leave it far behind.

You know how we're always trying to change ourself? Well, that's most likely what we need to change.

Exercise is good for your mind, for de-stressing and connecting to the natural world. Let it be that, not the next thing you obsess over because there is a cute guy who moved in down the street. These are just ridiculous though:

And they are running from everything in their life.
How motivational. I love making things cry. Hmmmm, oh yeah, not really.

I'm Lizi.
I've been frustrated because I feel like I'm playing the role of "myself" wrong.
I'm working on defining Lizi, who am I honestly?
I will figure it out.

You Know It's Fall When...

You know it's fall when...
 Erika perfects a soup.
Believe me, it was THE BEST SOUP EVER!
 Horses giggle at dogs
We can be dressed in winter attire this week and shorts next week.
Utah is not finished throwing parades.
(and sometimes you see really awesome people you know)
Everything is turning into an orangey red.
Including your nose.

(Dave has been gone all day. Most of these shots are from my favorite footage of the day.)

Too Many Daves

Did I ever tell you that Tina McCave
Had twenty-three sons and she named them all Dave?

Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one and calls out, "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get ONE.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run!

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate...
But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.

When I was a kid and played make believe, my name was either Susan or Jane. Why I chose those two is beyond me now.

If you could rename yourself, what would it be? Or do you know of odd names that have left you with a smile.

Feel The Earth Beneath Me

I need to leave the city.

Nature literally brings me back down to earth. I need to conquer a mountainside, jump into a pile of warm-colored leaves and stargaze without street lights in the way. I don't know how to appreciate God at his fullest when I'm surrounded by man-made things. If I don't get out I feel like these machines, buildings and social expectations will swallow me whole and surgically remove the desire to feel wind on my cheeks. So, all those tree-climbing, barefoot forest running and bird watching comrades are welcome to join me.

Warning: Our time is limited.
